Ballater has an enduring charm that doubtlessly contributed to the Royal decision to buy an estate close by. It is an attractive village, surrounded by hills and mountains, and enjoys a warm climate over the summer months. This weekend enjoy the Ballater Winter Festival.
Lumphanan on Royal Deeside is strongly connected with Macbeth, no not the Macbeth that Shakespeare embellished as an evil tyrant, but the real King Macbeth, who ruled Scotland from 1040–1057.
