Summer time and the hills and valleys are alive to the sound of the pipes and drums of Highland Games. Listen to the skirl of the pipes, marvel at the footwork of the highland dances and gasp at the feats of strength of the games. Sample a dram of the world famous “water of life” or enjoy some splendid local venison and then sit back and dream, for tomorrow you can do it all again. As summer fades, mountains are alive with vivid purple heathers and the valley autumnal shades are truly ablaze. Spot leaping salmon and watch the sunset over the mountains.
With the iconic River Dee flowing from its source high up in the Cairngorm Mountains it passes through 85 miles of some of the world’s most stunning scenery until it finally reaches the sea at Aberdeen.The area is seen by many as Scotland’s crowning glory and is home to many rare wildlife and plant species – capercaillie, red squirrels, roe deer, golden eagles and more! Or perhaps you would prefer to take a stroll around the gardens or walk the many woodland or forest paths. Take your pick we have it all, so many choices and so little time, what will you choose? Why not try your hand at fly fishing, or hire a bike and feel the wind on your face as you enjoy your surroundings. Visit the great outdoors and get back to nature, visit places off the beaten track. With the historic distillery of Royal Lochnagar situated on the edge of the world famous Balmoral estate then perhaps touring the distilleries in the area to sample a dram or three would be your ideal day too. There are several choices for Gin or Beer too, if they are your preferred tipple.
