Golf in Royal Deeside

Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire offer a variety of great courses to play. Home to world famous classic championship links golf courses like The Royal Aberdeen, to Aboyne being the oldest golf course in Royal Deeside.

A wide range of courses are on offer, from sand dunes, heathlands and rolling open countryside, all offer their own unique challenges in beautiful surroundings.

The area boasts to have 55 courses that you can come and play as a day visitor or maybe you plan to stay a little longer. With several courses to choose from you can take your pick, as there is something for everyone.

Braemar is the highest 18-hole course in Scotland at around 1,205 feet above sea level and sits in the heart of the Cairngorms national park. The course is relatively short, measuring 4,935 yards off the medal tees, but will test golfers of any standard.

Ballater was founded in 1892, originally laid out as a 9-hole course, on land owned by the laird of Invercauld but later expanded to an 18-hole in 1905. Several holes lie close to the River Dee and many a ball has gone to a watery grave. The course lie within a circle of hills with glorious views, a delightful golfing experience.

Looking to play the oldest course on Royal Deeside, then Aboyne is the one for you. With 6,000 yards of impeccable fairways and faultless greens - a golfer's haven. Golf has been played in Aboyne since 1874.

Set close to the banks of the River Dee, the 18-hole course at Banchory is also set in magnificent scenery with views around every corner.

Torphins and its 9-hole course is a short par 64 but requires accuracy and placement as opposed to long hitting.

At 3718 yards, Lumphanan's par 62 course offers a classic hillside 9-hole village course, where you must rise to the challenge of narrow fairways, complex greens and bunkers.

Inchmarlo Golf Resort offers a stunning golf course (9-hole Queen’s), a prestigious 20 bay driving range and fully-stocked pro shop.

Or perhaps opt for the Paul Lawrie Golf Centre which also boasts a 9-hole par three golf course, a 27 bay driving range and fully stocked shop.

Royal Deeside definitely does have a course to suit every type of golfer.
